Pyometra
Pyometra is a potentially life-threatening infection causing bacteria and fluid accumulation in the uterus, which can occur at any time within 2 months after a heat. Although it most commonly affects older bitches, it can occur as early as the first heat cycle. We now have alternative options, but the gold standard treatment for pyometra is still ovariohysterectomy (spay). However, if for some reason surgery is not an ideal option (i.e. medical conditions or breeding potential), we offer low-risk medical management options for pyometra.
