Medicine & Wellness

  • Medicine

Graham Animal Hospital recommends yearly wellness exams for all pets. During a wellness visit, our veterinarians will do a head-to-tail exam of your pet, discuss and administer any vaccines that are required, and will make recommendations for any follow-up care or testing that may be indicated during the exam. Our goal at this clinic is always to provide cooperative care alongside our clients to help our pets live their best, long, healthy lives.

  • Diagnostics

At some point in nearly every pet’s life they will experience an illness that requires specialized diagnostic testing. We are proud to offer a fully-equipped laboratory, digital radiographs, and ultrasound. Should your pet require hospitalization, our team of experienced and caring veterinarians and technicians will ensure that they receive expert and constant care.

  • Dentistry

At Graham Animal Hospital we understand that dental health correlates directly to overall health. To ensure your pet maintains a healthy mouth as they age, we offer preventative dental cleanings. For those pets who require a higher level of dental care, we are skilled at using our digital dental radiographs to diagnose more advanced dental disease and perform dental extractions and treatments as required.

  • Nutrition

Food is fuel. At Graham Animal Hospital we take an open-minded and cooperative approach to pet nutrition. From WASAVA-guided diet discussions, recommendations for preventative and therapeutic prescription diets for medical conditions, home-cooking, and diets for pregnancy or weight loss, we are committed to working together with our clients to find the perfect diet option for each individual pet.

Surgery

  • Spaying & Neutering

Ovariohysterectomy, or spaying, is the surgical removal of both ovaries and uterus, through an abdominal incision, involving a general anesthetic and sterile techniques. The main purposes for this surgery are to prevent pregnancy and estrus (“heat”). The procedure is also sometimes necessary in treating severe uterine infections, and ovarian and/or uterine tumours. We also offer ovariectomy surgeries, where only the ovaries are removed.

Castration, or neutering, is the surgical removal of the testes. This surgery is performed to eliminate unwanted sexual behaviours such as roaming and aggression, or may be necessary due to disease of the testes or prostate gland. This procedure is less invasive than spaying a female, and performed through a small incision just in front of the scrotum.

  • Cesarean Sections

As one of our specialties at Graham Animal Hospital is small animal reproduction, cesarean sections, both emergency and elective, are frequently performed by our surgeons.

  • Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedic surgeries can be done on site by our surgeons, or by a mobile board-certified orthopedic surgeon. We also offer surgery referrals.

  • Soft Tissue Surgery

Our team of veterinarians offers routine surgeries each weekday. We confidently offer surgical services for procedures such as soft-tissue surgery, mass removal, exploratory laparotomy, and more.

Your pet will be carefully and constantly monitored by one of our skilled technicians, both while they are under anesthesia and during the post-op period. Pain control is of utmost importance to us, so we commit to ensuring your pet is comfortable as they recover.

Integrative Medicine

  • Acupuncture

Our own team member Dr. Andrea Malatestinic proudly offers acupuncture to our clients. Using very small needles to stimulate specific points over your pet’s entire body, acupuncture can be used to treat a wide variety of health concerns. Generally, this procedure is a low-stress addition to conventional treatments that can make a significant difference in treating both acute and chronic health problems.

  • Laser Therapy

This pain-free cold laser therapy is used to reduce pain or inflammation caused by a variety of reasons. From post-op healing, orthopedic pain, soft-tissue injuries, arthritis, or wound healing, this non-invasive procedure is a great option for our pets.

  • Homeopathy

Veterinary homeopathy can be used in conjunction with traditional medicine under the supervision of a knowledgeable veterinary team. Both dogs and cats may benefit from homeopathic treatment, either during acute or chronic illnesses. Consulting with our veterinary team before starting homeopathic treatments will ensure proper evaluation of the appropriateness of the treatment and minimize or avoid interactions with other medications.

Breeder Health Services

  • Certification

Working alongside breeder clients is a cornerstone of what we do here. We are proud to work with conscientious people who come to us for health testing and certification for their breeding cats and dogs. From radiology screening of hips and elbows, genetic and various other blood tests, patellas, eyes, and more, we are always available to provide explanations of the diseases, the tests, and the results of any screening we offer.

  • Brucellosis Testing

With the growing interest in international breeding arrangements and the high number of dogs imported by rescue organizations, the risk of brucella in Ontario has increased. We offer brucella testing through our outside laboratory services, and require a negative brucella test for any dogs whose semen we collect for the purpose of freezing in our storage tanks.

  • Nomograph

Using results from nomograph, our veterinarians are able to provide guidance and make recommendations for individual puppies regarding the optimal time each should receive their first set of vaccinations. This test takes into consideration the level of protective antibodies each pup received from their mother’s colostrum, and can be a useful tool for breeders who prefer a natural approach to puppy rearing.
